Commemoration – Shopian Double Rape and Murder
Kashmir University Students’ Union[KUSU] today held a commemoration program regarding Shopian Double Rape & Murder Case in the lawns of Iqbal Library. Students started assembling near the venue from 1:30 PM. Despite the stiff resistance from the university authorities & police, students gathered in large numbers amidst anti-India & pro-Azadi sloganeering. The event started with Tilawat-e-Quran by a student. A student spoke about the case history that included cover-up of the case by puppet regime, concocted CBI report, 48-day shutdown by people of Shopian and the valley wide protests that followed the heinous incident. Student speakers from various departments spoke about varying perspectives and experiences of indian military occupation. They debated and out-rightly rejected occupational machinizations of controlling the populace of Kashmir in the ambit of probes, inquiries and judicial commissions.
Some students also read-out their poetry in remembrance of Asiya & Neelofar Jan. The students, including a large number of girls displayed placards reading slogans like “War has just begun we will see through it”, “Forgetting is a luxury and oppressed cannot afford”, “Justice is Freedom”.
“Rape is used as a war weapon by India to demoralize us from fighting the indian tyranny and muzzle the voices of Freedom,” said one of the students addressing the gathering.
Every student speaker paid rich tributes to all the martyrs of Kashmir and pledged not to forget their sacrifices for the pious cause of Freedom.
