Srinagar, Jul 11: Massive protests broke out in University of Kashmir post Friday prayers against Israeli’s Gaza bombing.
Soon after the prayers, hundreds of students assembled near Scholars hostel and held a protest rally under the banner of banned Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU).
Immediately after Friday prayers were over, students of the KU organised a rally against the Israeli action on people of Gaza in which more than 70 persons, including women and children, have been killed.
Raising slogans against Isreal, the students said the world bodies are also observing criminal silence over the killing of innocents in Gaza.
Demanding immediate end to the massacre of Gaza residents, the students appealed to muslim countries to intervene and force Israel to stop innocent killings immediately.
Raising pro-Palestine, pro-Hamas and anti-Israel slogans, protesting students marched through different streets of the campus. Protesters were also holding placards with anti-Israel slogans written on them. Down with Zionism’, ‘Long live Hamas’, ‘Stop the genocide in Gaza”, “Kashmir stands with Gaza’ reads some of the placards.
Protesters also burned the Israeli flag in protest against the killings in Palestine. The protesters dispersed after holding funeral prayers in absentia for the victims killed during Gaza bombing.
“The Rally was to express solidarity with the Muslim brethren of Gaza who are under continuous bombardment of Israeli airplanes since past four days. It has led to more than 80 killings including women and toddlers. Also injuring hundreds of others and destruction of their houses,” reads the statement of KUSU issued today.
KUSU also alleged that Proctoral wing and police tried to stop the demonstration. “But failed in the end due to stiff resistance from the students while the Kashmir University administration manhandled and abused the media men who were covering the rally and they also snatched the banners and posters from the students,” he alleged.
